Tamam is a free player for smart TVs and the non-profit project of an independent developer who lives in the Netherlands. That developer is responsible for the information described here; you can reach them at support@tamam.tv. Tamam only plays the sources you add yourself (M3U playlists or Xtream accounts). It offers no channels, films or series of its own.
This page explains which information stays where, where it goes and how long it is kept. In short: your personal information stays on your TV, and Tamam keeps no account that knows who you are.
What stays on your TV
Your sources and their addresses, user names, passwords, favourites, watch history, watchlist and settings are stored only on your TV. Passwords are stored encrypted. None of this is sent to Tamam’s service; neither are the addresses of your playlists or of the streams you watch.
Phone companion
When you scan the QR code on the TV, the page that opens on your phone comes from a small server running on the TV itself, over your home network only. The QR code carries a pairing key unique to your TV; a device without that key cannot use the page. You can renew the key in Settings > Phone > Reset phone remote; every paired phone then has to scan the code again.
Searches you type, sources you add and commands you give on the phone go straight to your TV. Nothing that travels between your phone and your TV passes through Tamam’s service. The one exception is the problem report described below.
What your TV sends to Tamam’s service
To show posters, summaries, cast and subtitles, the app sends Tamam’s service (api.tamam.tv):
- An installation ID created at random on your TV when Tamam first starts. It is not linked to your name, your LG account or your TV’s serial number.
- The films, series and people the app asks about (by their TMDB numbers) and the app’s language.
- When you search for subtitles: the title and year of the film or series, the season and episode number, the languages you asked for, and a fingerprint of the video file for an exact match. The file itself or its address is never sent.
Your TV’s IP address reaches the service, as with any internet connection. Tamam uses it only to prevent abuse, by limiting how many requests one address can make in a short time, and does not store it. It may remain in Cloudflare’s request logs for up to 7 days.
Tamam Cast (Firefox add-on)
Tamam Cast sends the video playing in your browser to Tamam on your TV. The video’s address, the Referer, Origin and User-Agent the site sends, and the page’s address, title and preview image go to your TV over your home network only. Cookies are never sent.
To find out which film or episode the video is, the add-on reads the page’s title, headings and structured data on your device. It asks Tamam’s service about the title and year it found and any TMDB numbers, with its own random installation ID. These lookups are cached for 6 hours, shared by all users and not linked to the installation ID. The add-on stores your TV’s address and the pairing key only in Firefox.
Problem reports and support
When you send a report from the "Report a problem" page on your phone, the report contains:
- the description you write;
- if you want, up to 3 photos or videos (18 MB in total at most, videos up to 30 seconds);
- if you want, an email address so we can reply;
- diagnostics: the app version, the TV model, the webOS and firmware version, screen resolution, the app’s language, theme, catalogue settings and how many accounts you have;
- if "Last launch log" is on, the technical log lines of the app’s last two launches. This option is on by default and you can turn it off before sending.
Before sending, "See everything that will be sent" shows the report exactly as it is. The report goes from your phone over your home network to your TV, and from there to Tamam’s service. Both your TV and the service strip passwords, user names, account and playlist addresses, stream addresses, IP and MAC addresses, email addresses and long strings that look like keys from the diagnostics. The service does not keep the report; it forwards it by email to support@tamam.tv and keeps only a daily count of reports.
Email to support@tamam.tv, reports and their attachments are kept in a support mailbox hosted by Gmail for at most 12 months after the last message in a conversation, and are then deleted. If you want them deleted sooner, just write to us.
This site (tamam.tv)
This site has no analytics, tracking or advertising and uses no cookies. It is published on Cloudflare Pages. Like any website, Cloudflare sees your IP address and browser details to deliver the page to you and may keep them briefly in its logs.
Donations
Donations are made through Ko-fi (ko-fi.com/tamamtv) with PayPal. Your payment details are processed by Ko-fi and PayPal; Tamam never sees them. Tamam receives only what Ko-fi shows the recipient of a donation: your name or nickname, your email address, the amount and your message if you leave one. These are used only to say thank you and to keep a record of donations, and are kept for as long as Dutch tax rules require (7 years).
What the service keeps, and for how long
- Film and series information from TMDB: shared by all users, refreshed regularly, and never kept for more than 6 months without a refresh.
- Subtitle search results: shared by all users, deleted 30 days after their last use.
- Subtitle files: a file from OpenSubtitles is kept only for the installation that downloaded it; a file from SubDL may be given to other users too. Both are deleted 30 days after their last use.
- Counters with no personal information (daily numbers of requests and downloads), so the service stays within its budget.
The service keeps no accounts, profiles or watch history.
Who we work with
- Cloudflare runs the service and this site (servers, storage, network, email forwarding).
- TMDB (themoviedb.org) provides film and series information. The service connects to TMDB, not your TV; TMDB does not see your address.
- OpenSubtitles and SubDL provide subtitles. The service connects to them too; your TV never connects to them directly.
- Google (Gmail) hosts the support mailbox where email and reports sent to support@tamam.tv are kept.
- Ko-fi and PayPal are involved only if you donate.
Tamam sells nothing, shows no ads and shares data with no one.
Your rights
You have the right to see, correct and delete the information kept about you and to object to its processing. Because Tamam keeps no account that knows who you are, in practice these rights apply to support email, reports and donation records. Write to support@tamam.tv; we reply within one month at the latest.
You can delete everything on your TV yourself, the installation ID included, with Settings > Data and upkeep > Reset App. The app creates a new installation ID on its next start, with no link to the old one. Removing the app from your TV has the same effect.
Because Tamam is run from the Netherlands, it is subject to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and it grants these rights to everyone, wherever you live. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or to the data protection authority of the country you live in.
